B-Scan Ultrasonography is a noninvasive diagnostic test used to evaluate the posterior segment, or back portion, of the eye when direct visualization is limited or not possible. This imaging modality is particularly valuable in diagnosing conditions such as retinal detachment, ocular trauma, intraocular tumors (including choroidal melanoma and retinoblastoma), and vitreous degeneration. B-scan is especially helpful in cases where traditional examination is obstructed by issues such as eyelid abnormalities, dense cataracts, corneal scarring, or vitreous hemorrhage or opacities. In these situations, B-scan ultrasound provides clear, cross-sectional images of the eye’s internal structures, offering critical information for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
